As tensions between China and India due to the Line of Actual Control (LCAC) had arisen for some time now, there have been some steps taken by the Indian government to curb the hold of Chinese companies among the Indian tech community by levying high taxes on the import of electrical and other equipment from China.
The Indian intelligence agency had already warned users of the 52 apps which have been having privacy issues.
Now, the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) has banned 59 Chinese apps due to transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers that have locations outside India. An excerpt from press release states that :
'The Ministry of Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India.'
